** Lithgow British Enfield Mk. III Rifle with Bayonet and Austrian Police Markings

.303 British caliber, 25" barrel, S/N 71793. Blue finish, walnut stocks, 1919 date. Top of barrel flat marked "Osterr Gendarmerie." Top of receiver and stock marked with Austrian proof mark and "2nd M.D." Stock also marked "CMF, 2 M.D." Since most of Austria's guns had been confiscated during the war, British SMLE's were given to the police to get them up and running. Hence, the Austrian police markings. Wilkinson 1907 dated bayonet with scabbard and frog.  Stock and front band have matching numbers with the receiver.

Good to very good condition with a dark bore.  The bore still has cosmolene present and will clean to better condition. The wood furniture has had a high gloss finish added over many dings and scratches.  This is an "old timer" with an interesting history.
