Wanted by the FBI: Civil Rights - Conspiracy - Interstate Flight - Robbery: James Earl Ray. Washington, DC: Federal Bureau of Investigation, 19 April 1968. 10 1/2 x 16 in. broadside (creases, small tears at top edge); with yellow envelope addressed to the Postmaster in Seneca, SC (some tears).

The first and second FBI Wanted posters issued in the aftermath of Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination. The first, issued 13 days after King's death, used James Earl Ray's alias Eric Starvo Galt, who began to use the pseudonym while filming pornography in Mexico in 1967. He employed the alias elsewhere, which the FBI traced to a Los Angeles laundry service, a Birmingham dance studio, and a registered white Ford Mustang in the early days of the investigation. The FBI obtained a photo of Galt from the International School of Bartending, used in their 17 April warrant and flyer using the name Eric Starvo Galt. Investigators began to manually compare fingerprints the next day and by 19 April, they found a match to James Earl Ray, prompting them to immediately distribute the updated warrant and wanted poster on 19 April. In addition to the correct name, the charges have been updated to include "interstate flight" and "robbery," and additional pictures have obtained. A list of aliases, which include Eric Starvo Galt, is listed alongside an updated description.
