Joslyn Model 1865 Breech Loading Rifle

.50RF, 34.5" barrel, S/N 1596. Bright finish, walnut stock with three solid spring retained barrel bands. Breechblock and receiver bed unmarked except for serial matching serial numbers with the letter M over them. Lock with {Spread-Winged Eagle} and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD forward of the hammer and dated 1864 at the tail. Stock spliced through the lock area with a zig-zag that runs diagonally from the upper rear lock mounting screw to  just below the forward lock screw. Retains 1864 pattern rear sight, combination musket style front sight/bayoet lug, two screw-retained sling swivels and a cupped-faced jag head cleaning rod.


Good, with major wood repair as noted. Metal moderately oxide and discolored with traces of an old cleaning as well as old, dried oil. Mechanically functional, good bore with moderate oxidation and some pitting. Stock sanded and refinished, spliced at lock mortise and showing scattered bumps and dings.
