"Peter Grimes" is based on the opera of the same name which is based on a poem by George Crabbe about a fictional village on England's east coast circa 1830.

"Albert Herring" is also based on the opera of the same name which is a translation of Guy de Maupassant's novella "Le Rosier de Madame Husson".
