Joel E. Whitney Stereoview of Wa-kan-o-zhan-zhan (Medicine Bottle),

on a regular-sized green mount with the imprint of Fearon of Minneapolis, and Upton's Views of Minnesota and the Northwest. Printed in the 1870s from a negative originally taken by Whitney following the Sioux Uprising of 1862. Whitney took this haunting image of Medicine Bottle at Fort Snelling on June 17, 1864. Convicted for his involvement in the depredations, Medicine Bottle was hanged at the fort on November 11, 1865.
