Hines, Earl (1903-1983). American jazz pianist and band leader, and one of the most influential figures in the development of the jazz piano, also known as Earl "Fatha" Hines. Silver gelatin photograph, 8 x 10 in., showing Earl Hines and his Orchestra. Signed in ink along lower margin, "Musically Earl 'Father' Hines." Reverse side appears to include signatures of other members of the orchestra and the instruments they played.
The consignor relates that this photograph was acquired about 20 years ago at an auction in Topeka, KS. It was found in a box of memorabilia from the estate of a local musician. It was previously housed in an old scrapbook.
Toning to print, with few light spots, smudges. Wear to corners. Hines' signature has worn a bit, but still in fine, legible condition. Remnants of paper on verso, indicating this was removed from a scrapbook.
