JAPAN AMBROTYPES: MAN & PARASOL, 2 LADIES

1) Man holding parasol with a potted plant on the table. He has his sash secured by a piece of netsuki. There is a red kanji stamp on the top edge of the case with the photographer's name and Japanese calligraphy in black ink on the inside of the front cover. Quarter plate (4 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches). Kiri wood case.

2) Two women with a potted plant on the pedestal in between them. Consignor says "... the woman on the right... has one hand in a tobacco purse with the other clasping a pipe and one of her feet twisted around casually for the photograph... woman on the left is sitting primly and holding something white..." 3 5/8 x 2 1/2 inches. Kiri wood case, which is missing a rail.

The consignor, Alex Novak, offered to split the hammer with the Daguerreian Society. This is a generous donation and greatly appreciated.

Condition:1) Very good. Would be even better with a black piece of paper inserted behind. Original black paper is smaller than the image. 2) Spotting in the upper left portion.
