Illustrated Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad Broadside, 1855

Printed broadside, approx. 5.875 x 12.875 in. (sight), matted and framed to approx. 10.625 x 18.125 in., announcing a new and direct route opening to the Mississippi River on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. Chicago: Scott & Fulton's Steam Presses, ca 1855. Illustration of a locomotive featured near center with bold text above and below proclaiming, "New and Direct Route Open! / Through Northern Illinois to the Mississippi River, / Iowa, Missouri, Kansas & Nebraska / All Rail Road to the Mississippi." Broadside boasts that the newly completed line helps to form "The Only Direct Route to / Burlington, Quincy, Keokuk, / Muscatine, Oquawka, Wapello, / Fort Des Moines, Council Bluff, &c. / and the Only All Rail Road Route to St. Louis." Below, text presents train schedules and trip details. Undersigned in print by "C. G. Hammond, Superintendent," and "C. E. Follett, General Ticket Agent. / Chicago, March 15, 1855."

Condition:

Some dampstaining and spotting/discoloration throughout broadside, but most visible to lower portion. Creases, both vertical and horizontal, are present throughout, with possible separation and repair, though not examined outside of frame. Frame verso with dampstaining.
