ID Disc with McClellan Pin Hanger, Anthony C. Reed, Co. I, 11th New Jersey Volunteers

Civil War identification disc, 1.25 in. dia., silver-plated white metal, suspended from original McClellan ping hanger, 2.5 in. overall. Disc obverse with foliate design and text reading, "War of 1861 / Fredericksburg / Engaged In The Above Battles." Reverse boldly stamped, "Anthy. C. Reed / Co. I / 11th Reg. / N. J. V. / Recklesstown. N. J." Shield-shaped hanger bears profile portrait of General George B. McClellan, identified with "McClellan" at top.

Anthony Reed enlisted as a private and mustered into Co. I, 11th New Jersey Infantry on August 8, 1862. The 11th New Jersey left the state at the end of August for Washington, DC and was subsequently engaged at Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. Later in 1863, while his regiment was on duty at Brandy Station, Reed was discharged for disability at Ward Hospital, Newark, NJ.
