8vo. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Nathan Bedford Forrest, 3 additional engraved plates, extensive tables with enlistment rolls. (Very mildly toned.) Publisher's embossed brown cloth gilt, spine gilt-lettered (corners chipped, minor rubbing to spine ends). 

FIRST EDITION. A history of 7th Tennessee Cavalry (also known as the Tennessee Mounted Rifles), the unit in which Forrest enlisted as a private. He was quickly promoted and the 7th later came under his command as general. The author is noted in the rolls as enlisting on November 1, 1864 in Company A. Young's portrait, along with those of 4 other privates, is included on the last plate. Howes Y-28.
