5.25 x 7.25 hand-colored oval albumen print on a larger mount, penciled just below the print Beers & Mansfield, Artists / 242 Chapel St, New Haven, Ct.  Housed in a period frame, 10.25 x 12.25 in. overall.

The soldier appears to be wearing the stripes of a major or lieutenant colonel, and the kepi on the table beside him is emblazoned with the insignia of the 23rd Infantry.  He bears some resemblance to postwar photographs of Maj. David H. Miller, 23rd Connecticut Volunteer Infantry.

Condition:Toning and light soiling.
