Halfstock Flintlock Rifle by J. Bishop

About .42 caliber. 34.5" octagonal length barrel. SN: NSN. Browned metal finish with brass and coin silver stock escutcheons. Curled maple stock has a checkered straight grip and plain forearm, with carved cheek rest to left side. Halfstock flintlock long rifle with notch and blade sights. Item features a brass patchbox with finial motif. Stock features several oval stock escutcheons and a brass grip plate to bottom of forearm. Markings include an engraved lock signed J. BISHOP/WARRANTED. Included is a wood ramrod with brass tip. Lock was pulled, there is light discoloration and corrosion near touch hole, but item does not appear to have been converted to percussion. 

J. Bishop was a lockmaker from Eastern Pennsylvania active sometime after 1775, according to Database of USA Gunmakers

Condition:

Good. Bore is frosty and has moderate residue to rifling. Finish has mottled brown appearance due to thinning and small clusters of pitting. Wood stock has some light scratching and mars, as well as small cracking around lock screw and around stock fixtures to bottom of stock. Action is functional.
