.38 caliber, 34.25" octagonal barrel, NSN. Browned finish with checkered wrist and raised cheek piece and set triggers. Blade front sight with u-notch block rear sight. Iron mountings including sideplate, buttplate, and patch box. Lockplate marked with hunting scene and illegible marking. Top of barrel marked "A McComas" alongside "Baltimore" which appears to be a separate stamp.
Alexander McComas was active in Maryland from 1843 to his death and was the largest maker of percussion guns in that state.
Fair to good. Barrel has a deep plumb patina with some sear on sharp edges and light pitting throughout. Iron mountings have a pewter patina with some light discoloration. Stock has blemishes consistent with age and use, but is free of cracks, splits, and other major damage. Bore is fair, with darkening and pitting but with some visible rifling remaining.
