Half Stock Percussion Rifle by Melchior Fordney
.55 caliber, 39.5" barrel, NSN. Blued barrel with brass ramrod pipes, trigger guard, sideplate and buttplate. Blade front sight with v-notch block rear sight. Top of barrel marked "M. Fordney" with additional engraving on muzzle. Wrist carved with four-line checkering. Stock has carved cheek piece and three-piece patch box with broach scroll finial. Replaced barrel pin.
Condition:
Good. Barrel has a dark plumb patina with some some pitting around breech. Stock has old blemishes with a 9" crack from ramrod pipe to trigger guard, which is missing a screw. Additional sliver of wood missing from toe as well as around lockplate. Bore fair; some old cratering and pitting including some dirt with no visible rifling.
