Group of Three Civil War Cased Images--Pvt. Robert G. Armstrong, 88th OVI,
Condition:Both of the sixth plate ambrotypes exhibit rings of tarnish with uniform spotting in the field from chemical oxidation. The cover glass has never been cleaned and the quality and clarity improve noticeably outside of the glass. Both images are housed in partial composition cases. The hexagonal tintype is nearly obscured by grimy cover glass and we were unable to extract the image from its gutta percha case to examine the plate. The floral pattern case with gilded center medallion is likewise dirty with minor edge wear.
