Grant Marching Band Members with Drum & Fife, Sixth Plate Tintype

Sixth plate tintype of two U. S. Grant parade / marching band members posed with a drum and fife and wearing tanned leather aprons that clearly define them as 1868 Grant marchers. U.S. Grant had been a tanner and virtually all Grant marchers wore the apron to show that the general was really a common man, just like his fellow Americans.  Although several tintypes of parade marchers have surfaced, this is the only one we have seen capturing members of the band, indicating that there was a much smaller number of band members compared to the torchbearers and rank and file. Uncased.
