George III Sterling Armorial Salver

English, ca. 1776. A sterling salver by Robert Makepeace & Richard Carter with Chippendale border and armorial crest in center for the Eccles family with the motto SE DEFENDENDO, resting on four pad feet, marked for maker with London hallmarks and 1776 date letter on underside; ht. 2, wd. 21.25, dp. 21.25 in., total silver wt. 110.150ozt (3426g). 



Later engraving on underside. Some surface scratching, and tray is slightly uneven.
