Israel Putnam (1718-1790) was formally commended for his gallantry at the Battle of Bunker Hill and is remembered as one of Connecticut's most famous Revolutionary War soldiers. "Old Put" is featured here riding his horse down 100 stone steps at Horses Neck, Greeenwich, CT, in his daring flight from a group of British cavalrymen (pictured in the background) in February of 1779.
