Full-Stock Flintlock Kentucky Rifle by John Armstrong

.50 caliber smoothbore, 45" octagonal-to-round barrel with brass escutcheon engraved John Armstrong. Curly maple full stock. Barrel held to stock by four wedges. Incised carved lines running parallel with ramrod and barrel. Raised carving behind rear ramrod thimble, carving in front of lock and the mortise on the opposite side. Carving behind the tang and around the comb of stock running down to the triggerguard on both sides. Buttstock is very plain. Brass buttplate, sideplate, ramrod thimbles and nose cap. Silver thumb plate, and two hearts behind the lock and on the opposite side. John Armstrong made some of the best rifles and seldom does a fowler come up for sale.

Condition:Barrel and tang have a nice untouched brown patina mixed with some pitting. There is some pitting around the touch hole. Lock has a nice dark patina. The hammer, pan, frizzen, and frizzen spring are high quality replacements and are clones of the originals. The left side of the stock was restored by Carl Pippin and he did a very fine job as it is unnoticeable. The stock has some very nice untouched patina in all of the protected areas. From what we understand about this rifle, the restoration is of the highest quality and has made this a very great looking rifle and well worthwhile to own.
