Lot of 48 interesting photographs of various "pole-sitters" from the 1920s-late 1950s measuring 4 in. x 5.75 in. to 8 in. x 10 in. This fad, started by Alvin "Shipwreck" Kelly as a way to promote a movie theater in Hollywood in 1924, soon became a nation-wide craze. Contained in this lot are images of "Shipwreck" Kelly and Charlie Lupica, a man who vowed to stay atop a flagpole until the Cleveland Indians were in first place, among other well-known pole-sitters.
