Fine Collection of Abraham Lincoln CDVs, Incl. Pose by Brady Studio, Plus

Lot of ten CDVs, accompanied by a green, embossed leather album, 3.5 x 4.5 in. Collection features six portraits of Abraham Lincoln, most notably an image of a bearded Lincoln seated in a chair [O-53A], taken by Alexander Gardner in the Brady Studio on the occasion of the President's first sitting in Washington, D.C., probably February 24, 1861, verso with E. Anthony, New York, NY studio imprint. Five additional Lincoln cartes bear vignetted bust-length portraits, including an unusual photograph featuring the President in a round-tipped collar [O-55] with Tyson Brothers, Gettysburg, PA backmark. Also with two engraved variants of O-92, credited on verso to Geo. J. Scherer, Newport, KY and Davis' Gallery of Fine Arts, Cincinnati, OH; O-91, with backmark of M.J. Dennis, Cincinnati, Ohio; and an engraved variant of O-83, with verso credit to Tyson Brothers, Gettysburg, PA and recto inscription, "Photographed from original at Gettysburg, Pa."

Collection completed by an uncredited portrait of Mary Todd Lincoln; a memorial CDV after a print credited to Tyson Brothers, Gettysburg, PA; and two portraits of unknown men, housed in the same sleeve, with pencil inscriptions erroneously identifying them as Horace Greeley and Henry Ward Beecher.
