F. Jay Haynes, Rare Group of Stereoviews of the 1881 Mandan Flood, Dakota Territory

Lot of 8 stereoviews, each on mount credited to F. Jay Haynes, Fargo, Dakota Territory, showing the Missouri River flood and ice jam at Mandan, DT, including several views of downtown Mandan, one centered on the city bakery and grocery store, another showing the "Mandan House," drug store, and other hotels and businesses; and views of the ice jams, some showing men posing on or near them or trying to break up the ice.

The Mandan Flood of 1881, which peaked in late March, is considered one of the worst natural calamities in Mandan's history. The ice gorges backed up the Missouri and Heart Rivers, which consequently submerged the business section and many of the residential sections of the city.

Overall very good condition. Some with light staining/spotting/soiling.
