Extremely Clear Sixth Plate Tintype of Double-Armed Soldier, Possibly Confederate

Sixth plate tinted tintype of an unidentified soldier wearing a dark frock coat with unusual Russian knots, the latter rarely seen except for Civil War federal artillery officers. The subject sports large shoulder scales a la Federal dress uniforms, which was often worn by Confederates. The butt of a holstered pistol and decorative knife can be seen in the subject's belt. An oilcloth covers the soldier's forage cap. Consignor was told this was a South Carolina soldier. Housed in a full, split leather case.
