English Flinklock Trade Pistol by W. Ketland

24-Bore (.58 caliber). 9.4375" pinned barrel. no S/N. Browned finish, brass furniture, full-length walnut stock. Flat lock plate with pronounced teat at rear marked "W. / KETLAND / & Co." in three lines. Lock with unbridled integral fenced iron pan and flat faceted swan-neck cock. Lock remains in original flint. Touchhole slightly oversized, with moderate erosion, well centered in the pan and appropriately tapered. Top of barrel marked "LONDON" and breech with "{CROWN}/GP" and "{CROWN}/P" Tower private proof marks. Brass furniture includes flat S-shaped side plate, butt cap, oval wrist escutcheon, triggerguard and ramrod pipes. Includes an old wood ramrod the is likely a replacement. William Ketland was part of the Ketland gunmaking family the also worked in the retail and wholesale gun trade. He was most active during the first two decades of the 19th century, with Ketland & Co exporting thousands of guns to markets around the world.

Condition:

Good. Moderately oxidized barrel with brown patina and scattered pitting, the breech area having been cleaned to make the "LONDON" mark easier to read. Lock with a thicker brown patina. Mechanically functional, good bore is heavily oxidized and moderately pitted. Stock with moderate wear, showing bumps, dings, marks and some areas of added finish.
