English Boxlock Flint Pocket Pistol by Jones

.42 caliber. 2.25" round barrel. SN: NSN. Moderately oxidized grayish brown metal, smooth wood grip. Flint box lock single shot twist-off pistol with flat reinforced cock. Obverse frame engraved with trophies of arms surrounding the word "LONDON" with the obverse similarly engraved around the maker's name "JNo JONES/& Co" in two lines. Bottom of chamber with post-1813 Birmingham proof marks. Several gunsmiths in Birmingham and the Regions with the name John Jones worked during the period this pistol was produced, circa 1813-1830s thus it is difficult to know which "John Jones" produced the gun. These mid-caliber, twist off pocket pistols were quite popular in England for self-defense during the first half of the 19th century.

Condition:

Good. Metal moderately oxidized with a brownish gray patina and some scattered pitting. Markings remain mostly clear and legible. Needs mechanical attention as the trigger spring is broken and the pistol will only hold the half and full cock positions if the trigger is pushed forward to make the sear engage the notches in the cock. Frizzen spring weak. Bore fair, dark, dirty and with pitting. Barrel frozen to breech as is common with these guns. Grips good with some scattered bumps, dings and handling marks.
