Early British "Brown Bess" Musket, From the James B. Scoville Collection

.75 caliber smoothbore, 37" barrel. Early style lockplate, banana shaped, marked Tower on the rear of lockplate. Walnut stock with brass furniture. Small brass tacks outlining the buttplate. Two lines of small brass tacks running parallel from the toe to the back of the triggerguard.


The barrel is dark patina with some pitting. The lock is gray to brown with pitting. Stock with dark brown to black patina. Brass tacks have nice untouched patina around the tacks. On the front of the stock the nose cap is worn off with nice black patina.
