Daniel J. Ransohoff was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio who developed an interest in documenting the condition of Cincinnati's poor neighborhoods at an early age. Throughout his lifetime, he produced approximately 26,000 photographs, which he eventually donated to the Cincinnati Historical Society. In 1955, one of Ransohoff's photographs was selected to be included in Edward Steichen's "Family of Man" exhibit, held at the Museum of Modern Art. Ransohoff was trained as a social worker, and he worked for Family Service of the Cincinnati Area as well as the United Way & Community Chest. His experience as a social worker helped sharpen his eye as a photographer. During the 1960s, Ransohoff's photographs were exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution, and his work has also been included in several publications over the years.
