.36 caliber, 7.4375" octagonal-to-round barrel, S/N 1670. Artificially aged patina on the meal, brass back strap, grip strap and triggerguard. Six-shot, single action percussion revolver with 12 stop slots. Top of octagonal barrel portion marked AUGUSTA. GA CSA. A fairly well-executed fraud that initially looks very much like a Rigdon & Ansley "Augusta" revolver. However, the font and style of the markings, particularly the serial numbers are not correct. A good representative example for a collector that cannot afford the $25,000 to $30,000 price tag of most authentic examples.
Good. Metal chemically aged and patronized with scattered old dirt, grease and oxidation. Markings unnaturally clear and crisp. Mechanically functional, poor bore is very dirty and heavily oxidized. Grip worn with chips and wood filler, an old repaired crack and moderate sanding.
