FIRST EDITION of a cookbook featuring hundreds of recipes, many submitted with the name and residence of the Federation member. The New Jersey State Federation of Colored Women's Clubs was founded in 1915 by suffragist and ordained minister Florence Spearing Randolph (1866-1951) who served as its first president. The Federation was instrumental in having Governor Alfred E. Driscoll declare Crispus Attucks Day (March 5th) a legal state holiday and in obtaining official recognition of Black History Month under Governor Brendan T. Byrne. The organization remains active in its community. RARE: OCLC locates only 5 copies.
