.58 caliber, 25" barrel secured by two flat, spring-retained barrel bands, no S/N. Bright finish, iron furniture, brass buttplate, walnut stock. Composite assembly to resemble an original Confederate Richmond Arsenal carbine, using a reproduction CS Richmond marked lock and some period parts including a shortened period US musket barrel, shortened stock and some period small parts. The carbine was probably assembled to deceive potential buyers in the 1970s or 1980s and from a short distance looks quite believable until it is inspected in detail. A good looking example to hang on the wall without paying the upper four to low five figure price of a complete, correct and authentic Richmond carbine.
Good as assembled. Shows moderate wear and oxidation on all of the metal and some old apparent chemical toning or aging of the barrel. Mechanically functional, bore with heavy oxidation and visible rifling. Stock with moderate wear, and numerous bumps, dings and mars.
