Colt 1849 Pocket Model Revolver 1st Type

.31 caliber. 6" barrel length. SN: 247468. Six-shot single-action percussion revolver with hammer notch and front brass bead sights. Bare metal finish with one piece varnished walnut grips. Cylinder is roll engraved with a stagecoach hold up scene that remains visible. Serial numbers to barrel, arbor, lever, gripstraps, frame, and wedge all match. Top of octagonal barrel is marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" with left frame showing "COLT'S/PATENT". Further marking to left side of trigger guard reads "31 CAL". Markings are weak, and few traces of original finish still visible on left frame and on loading lever. Some pitting visible to frame and rear of cylinder that has been polished clean. Overall metal finish is gray indicating the item was polished. Serial number indicates a probable 1863 date of manufacture. Bottom of grip shows traces of a marking that may have been ground off.

Good. Bore is a brown patina throughout with strong rifling. Metal finish shows patches of discoloration or gray patina forming. Brass furniture has a caramel colored patina to backstrap with some darker patina edges. Wood grips have some handling wear and mars with varnish worn off at edges of butt. Safety notches on cylinder worn flat. Action is functional but lockup is loose.
