A depiction of the two-day Battle of Nashville overtaking either Overton's or Shy's Hill. Confederate soldiers are shown in the foreground in a retreat of oncoming white Union cavalrymen. The background shows the crest of the hill with Southern artillery being captured by Black infantrymen led by a white officer holding an American flag. One of the largest Union victories, General Hood's army was routed by the Army of the Cumberland under General George H. Thomas.  The Order of Battle included the 1st and 2nd Colored Brigades comprising 8 USCT regiments.
