CDV vignetted bust portrait of Captain Aaron C. McDonald, Co. E, 26th US Colored Infantry. 2 1/4 x 3 1/2 in. albumen photograph on cardstock mount. (Clipped, with soiling and spotting to image and ink smear to inscription.) Signed on recto: "Yours Truly / A.C. McDonald/ Capt 2[6?] USCT." Photographer's imprint on verso. Housed under mat, glass, and preserver in a geometric union case (heavy soiling and loss to front cover, with general wear to surface throughout). 

Captain McDonald enlisted as a first lieutenant on 1 March 1864, mustering into Co. E of the 26th USCT that same day. He was promoted to captain in November, and mustered out at the end of August the following year.
