Sixth plate tintype portrait of an unidentified member of the 5th Company, Washington Artillery of New Orleans. (Minor surface wear, particularly where plate meets meet, image a touch dark, strong clarity and contrast.) Housed in full pressed paper case (corner/edge wear). Provenance: Ex Collection of Dave Lewis, Lakewood, CO.

The tintype is illustrated and described on page 10: “This unidentified member of 5th Co., Washington Artillery holds an M1849 Colt Pocket revolver; a cannon friction primer is carried in a pouch under his right arm. The first four companies of the Washington Artillery usually served together with the Army of Northern Virginia; at Shiloh the 5th Co (Hodgson’s Battery) served with Patton Anderson’s brigade of Ruggles’ division in II Corps of the Army of the Mississippi."
