Civil War Photograph of a Michigan Cavalry Officer

Oval albumen photograph, 5.25 x 7.25 in., on 9 x 10.5 in. mount. A studio portrait of an unknown 1st lieutenant of cavalry wearing single-breasted frock coat (indicating company grade officer) with Hardee hat having crossed sabers. With blindstamp at lower left of "Randall, Detroit," which suggests that this unknown junior officer may have served with the 1st Michigan Cavalry.

Condition:

Image is light, with some scattered spots. Some corner/edge wear to mount. Penciled note on mount verso incorrectly identifies subject as Colonel Norval E. Welch.
