Civil War Half Plate Tintype of New York Cavalry,

unidentified, said by the consignor to be a New York cavalry camp with a log picket line for horses in the foreground. The stand of towering pines is reminiscent of Gardner's views of Brandy Station, Virginia, taken while the Army of the Potomac was in winter quarters. An elaborately constructed guard post is visible in the center utilizing local timber finished in geometric patterns. Four or five officers armed with sabers pose for the camera dead center with more soldiers standing in the left middle ground just out of focus. A fine outdoor image executed by an accomplished photographer.
