Civil War General William P. Robeson, Albumen Photograph and Military Commission

Lot of 2, including albumen photograph of Robeson in dress uniform, 5.5 x 8 in., on verso of an imprinted mount of E.T. Whitney of Norwalk, CT, 8 x 10 in. overall, and his presidential appointment to brevet brigadier general, with the stamped signatures of Andrew Johnson and Edwin M. Stanton, 15 x 18 in., framed larger.

William Penn Robeson, Jr., was commissioned a first lieutenant in the 3rd New Jersey Infantry in 1861, promoted to captain in 1862, and discharged for promotion to major in field & staff of the 3rd New Jersey Cavalry in late December 1863. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in September 1864, and was awarded brevets to colonel and brevet brigadier general for meritorious service at Five Forks and Richmond.  He was commissioned a captain in the 7th U.S. Cavalry in 1866 and again was brevetted brigadier general, but resigned in 1867.

Condition:Print with even toning and light fading.  Mount with silverfish damage along top edge.  Commission
