[CIVIL WAR - EQUIPMENT]. US Marine Pattern Shoulder Scales by Horstmann with Tin Case.

Matching pair of brass 1859 pattern shoulder scales with worsted wool fringe, complete with attachment bars on the reverse, maker marked "HORSTMANN / PHILA."  The red wool fringe is not the regulation color normally found on Marine scales, which should be yellow, possibly indicating that these may have been for a special branch, like musicians.  Complete with brass attachment loops and a japanned tin storage case.

Good, the case has significant abrasions to the finish.
