Civil War Dansville, NY 139th Recruiting Broadside

18.75 x 24 in. (sight), framed to 21 x 24.75 in. Broadside in red and blue ink. Prepare to Defend the Stars and Stripes. The meeting at Canaseraga Hall was to take place on Saturday, April 20, 1861, barely a week after the bombing of Fort Sumter. All knew war was imminent, even though Lincoln's official call for 75,000 troops did not come until the following Saturday. Pencil notation at top in period hand it is presumed that Mr. Meeks(?) resulted in raising a company of the 13th Reg. - Co. B. Both upper corners are torn away.

Condition:Light toning at top; folds. Other than missing paper (above), it appears to be in good shape. Not removed from frame for examination.
