Requisition for materials to repair Fort Morgan (Mobile Bay), dated 23 Feb. 1861. Signed "D. Leadbetter, Col. & Engr." Danville Leadbetter (1811-1866) was a career military man and officer in the U.S. Army who served as a Confederate General after the war broke out. After his involvement in the Nov. 1863 Battle of Fort Sanders, he left the country and lived his remaining three years on foreign soil. Just over a week before Alabama seceded from the Union, col. Jon Todd took four companies of volunteers and captured the fort before dawn on 3 Jan. 1861, turning it over to the Confederate Army in March.

Wellborn, W[illiam], Capt. Co. B, 1st Aa. (light) Artillery. ANS, Fort Morgan, 19 May 1863. (4.5 x 5.25 in.) Note: "I certify that J.B. Cook diseased [sic - deceased] was a Private in my company and that there was pay deu [sic] him from October 31 1862 when last paid by Maj. Wm. Barnwell to the 26th day of December 1862 the date of his disease." Signed "W. Wellborn, Capt. Co. "B" 1st Batt. Ala. Arty."
