Civil War Albumen Photograph of the 7th Delaware Battery Defending Washington, DC, 1863

Albumen photograph, 6.75 x 8.5 in., on 7.75 x 9.75 in. trimmed mount, displaying members of the 7th Delaware Battery encamped at Fort Barry, a federal artillery depot and instructional camp. Penciled caption on mount below image reads, "Camp Barry / 7th Del. Battery / Washington, DC 1863." The presence of conical Sibley tents suggests that the photograph was taken in the spring of 1863, once the wooden barracks had been disassembled from winter.

Some loss to top right and top left edges of print. Even toning to print.
