[CIVIL WAR] A 20th Century Theatrical Costume of a 19th Century French Vivandiere's Uniform.

During the mid to late 19th century many European, South American and, to a lesser extent, US armies allow select women to be attached to the forces to aid in the care of the troops on the battlefield.  In France and the US they were known as Vivandieres.  In Spanish speaking countries they were called Cantineras. Generally the wife or sister of one of the soldiers, these "Daughters of the Regiment" were often noted for their coolness under fire and some were highly decorated for their bravery.  The uniform offered here is an accurate and complete older costume copy of the type worn by these intrepid women.  It consists of a Saxon blue wool flannel Zouave jacket and vest trimmed in red, a red flannel skirt with a white and yellow band, and tall white canvas gaiters closed with white glass buttons. The jacket displays an original 1870 Medaille Militaire, an award for deeds of exceptional valor, and a non-regulation "Honneur" medal.  The uniform is complete with a black felt brimmed hat with feather plume and a Joan of Arch brooch.  The garment linings have several costumer's property ink stamps.  And excellent copy for display of a type of uniform of which the originals are almost unavailable in today's market.
