8 1/2 x 11 in. packet with map of Mississippi printed on blue cover sheet, corner-stapled together (some soiling, few notations, some corner/edge wear to map). 5pp. introduction, 26pp. (p. 26 with few short tears and chips to edges, partially detached from staples).
A significant document describing not only the various programs organized by SNCC under their Mississippi Project, but also 26pp. of detailed day-by-day violence perpetrated against SNCC members and allies during the summer of 1964. The packet begins with a brief history of the Mississippi Project's development and then provides information on each of the community initiatives established under its aegis, including: Freedom Schools, Community Centers, Voter Registration and Freedom, Federal Programs Research, White Community Project, Legal Project, Legal Aid, and Supplementary Programs (Medical Committee, National Council of Churches, Free Southern Theater, and Mississippi Caravan of Music).
The remainder of the packet enumerates a "running summary of incidents" beginning on 16 June and ending 26 August . Each incident includes the location and a summary of the harassment, arrest or violence (i.e. Jackson: White car fires shot at Henderson's cafe. Negroes pursue. Three shots fired, hitting one Negro in head twice). The majority of these incidents were likely not documented in the press, and although much has been written on the violence in Mississippi in 1964, this list provides detailed insight into the daily occurrences of violence faced by SNCC members and sympathizers.
