CDV of Marine Lieut. S.W. Powell

A vignette with imprint of Miller & Freeman, Charleston, Mass. having late war two cent blue-green revenue stamp. The Powell identification is documented via an email exchange between two collectors, one with this identical image signed (copy of email included).

Marine Lieutenant Powell wears the double-breasted frock coat having two rows of eight buttons and distinctive undress shoulder knots first prescribed in the 1859 regulations. The Navy Register lists S.W. Powell as 2nd Lieutenant November 25, 1861, promoted 1st Lieutenant November 20, 1862, resigned February 12, 1865.
