Cased Pair Of Double Barrel Percussion Pistols By H. Dowling

40-Bore (.49 caliber), 3.8125" barrels, no S/N. Browned Damascus patterned barrels, iron and German silver mounts, checkered walnut stocks. Single trigger, double hammer back action percussion locks engraved with loose foliate scrolls and DOWLING. Hammers retained by bun nuts and engraved en-suite, as is the breech block and tang. Barrel ribs engraved DOWLING DUBLIN and stamped with the Irish registration codes DC-5046 and DC-5047, with the "DC" indicating Dublin City. Iron triggerguard engraved with similar patterns, as is the iron entry pipe. German silver butt cap engraved with loose foliate scrolls as well, German silver wedge escutcheons and thumb plates plain. Pistols are equipped with brass tipped wood ramrods that appear original to the guns. Pistol are contained in a period partitioned casing with a green baize lining and a period paper label. The label reads in parts: H. Dowling / Manufacturer of Guns & Pistols / on the most approved principles / 78 Dame Street / Dublin. The included accessories are an iron round ball mold marked "32", a small copper powder flask, a heavy wood and brass loading rod, a japanned tin of Eley percussion caps, six lead round balls, and part of the cone wrench, missing the detachable "T" handle. Condition:

Very good. Barrels with traces of brown and visible Damascus patterning with some scattered minor surface oxidation. Markings and engraving remain crisp and clear. Mechanically functional, moderately oxidized and rusted bores. Stocks with scattered bumps and dings. Case with some surface and interior wear, showing some loss to lining, minor damage to dividers and a loose bottom support piece. Label good with staining. Accessories good to fine, mold with oxidation and likely a replacement, loading rod with wear and some grain cracks in the ivory cap, flask about fine, cap tin good.
