British Naval Officer's Leather Writing Desk,

beautifully tooled leather-covered domed-top traveling desk with gilt inscription on interior H.H. Rawson R.N./Presented By/S. Waterhouse and maker's stamp, also in gilt, Delarue & Co. London. Wonderfully appointed interior with quill pens, MOP penknife, fitted inkwell and lamp case, matching leather-bound small 8vo journal and cash book and bronze seal with Spear & Jackson Sheffield surrounding a crown. Lift out compartments and section for letter covers with original covers, 13 separate compartments. Brass handle inset into lid engraved H.H. Rawson R.N. 1857, 6" high x 16" wide x 11" deep.

Rawson enjoyed a long career in Her Majesty's Navy, attaining the rank admiral. Sir "Harry's" flagship was the H.M.S. Majestic in 1900. Lot includes a printed photograph of Sir Rawson and officers of the Majestic and a printed photo of the battleship. The Majestic was later sunk at the Gallipoli Peninsula campaign during WWI.
