.44 Rimfire. 22" half octagon/half round barrel length. SN: 701. Blued metal finish. Two piece walnut stock has a plain straight grip and forearm with single barrel band sling swivel. Single shot falling block rifle with blade front sight and folding leaf rear sight with notches for 100, 250, and 500 yards. Breech is marked BALLARD'S PATENT/NOV. 5, 1861 to right side of barrel flat, BALL & WILLIAMS/WORCESTER, MASS. to center of barrel flat, and MERWIN & BRAY. AGT'S/NEW YORK. to left side of barrel flat. Stock does not appear to have any visible cartouche markings. Includes piece of broken leather sling to bottom edge.
Condition:
Good. Bore is bright, possibly buffed or brushed at some point. Finish has mottled grey appearance overall due to finish losses and developing patina. Bottom of barrel has clusters of heavy pitting. Wood stock is in great condition, showing only a few scratches and mars overall. Wood to metal fit is good overall except for slight overlapping at toe of buttplate.
