This sideboard was purchased by the consignor's parents from John Whitelaw & Sons Antiques (Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland) in 1997. The Whitelaws attributed the sideboard to James Lamb (British, 1816-1903) based on distinctive stylistic similarities between the sideboard and documented furniture by Lamb. In particular, the subtle gilding and turnings on the base frieze are characteristics of Lambs aesthetic. James Lamb established a workshop in 1843 in Manchester, England. He exhibited his furniture in the 1862 London World's Fair and in 1878 at Paris World's Fair, he was awarded a gold medal. His furniture designs were noted for their elegance and beauty.
