Anti-Slavery Meetings Broadside

10.5 x 16 in. Printed by Homestead, Salem, Ohio. Blank poster with spaces to enter place and time of the meetings. The rhetoric is typical: Three millions of your fellow beings are in chains - the Church and Government sustains the horrible system of oppression. But what is not typical is the last: Emancipation or Dissolution, and a Free Northern Republic! This group appears to have also wanted to secede from the union - to form a nation free of slavery! The Western Anti-Slavery Society appears to have been a splinter of the American Anti-Slavery Society led by radical abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison and was centered in Salem. (See http://edt.ohiolink.edu for Douglas Gamble's MA Thesis on the Western Anti-Slavery Society.)

Condition:Professionally matted behind acetate. Light toning and surface soiling. Slight scuffing of margins. Slight "ghosts" where others of these were stacked at one time.
