Ames M1860 Light Cavalry Saber,

35" blade, marked on ricasso Ames Mfg. Co., Chicopee, Mass. Reverse marked U.S. and with inspector's initials ADK. Undated. Leather and brass wire wrapped handle. Brass knuckle bow and pommel. Metal scabbard with thin lip at the throat. Referred to as the "1857 Light Cavalry Saber." An article appeared in the September/October 2001 issue of Man At Arms magazine with information on these rare swords.

Condition:Brass knuckle bow has been cleaned and has a sheen to the brass. Leather is excellent, brass with a nice tarnished look. Blade is a gunmetal grey with some staining and pitting. Some evidence of the original polish lines. Metal scabbard has been rebrowned. A very rare variation of the light cavalry saber.
